A 10th-grade student of Navanalanda School in Behala, identified as Srijani Dalal, tragically takes her own life after being denied permission by her mother to attend Saraswati Puja festivities in Bhasan the day after Basant Panchami. According to police and family sources, Srijani's mother instructed her to stay home and study for an upcoming exam, leading to a confrontation that ended in the student's suicide. Srijani's body was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in her home, prompting an investigation by Behala police.
The incident highlights the devastating consequences of academic pressure and parental expectations on students, especially during times of religious and cultural celebrations. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and are conducting further inquiries, while the community mourns the loss of a young life.
